Double win of Bruno Ferrari the gentleman driver from Brescia, in his Branca Formula Junior, at the third round of the Formula Challenge held on the circuit in Castrezzato on last 12 – 13 June. Two wins that the Brescian driver, who started from pole position, obtained in very different ways. The first, taking the lead followed closely for a few laps by Tommaso Gelmini in his wonderful Matra Formula 3 and by Francesco Zadotti in the wonderful Tecno “Passocorto”. In any case, Ferrari did not really worry about them. The second most exciting win arrived in the last two bends.
After having controlled the race until the last lap, Ferrari suffered from the attack of Paolo Marzatico, the driver from Brianza, also in a Formula Junior Branca, who overtook him, with the complicity of a lapped car. But Ferrari regained the first position in the last two bends, because of a gearbox problem that affected Marzatico. Eventually, the driver from Brianza deserved the second place, obtained by passing the finish line with the engine off. The third place on the podium in race two went to Patricia Sbardolini that at her home circuit (she is from Brescia) was surrounded by her family and friends that celebrated the result with great emotion.
Since the tests held on Saturday morning, it was clear that the podium would be divided among four competitors: Ferrari, Gelmini, Zadotti and Marzatico with Sbardolini ready to take advantage of the slightest error or problem that could affect those who preceded her. Among the junior front-engine cars, the pole-man was Tazio Taraschi, with the family car, his first time at the almost 2600 meters long Franciacorta circuit, two seconds ahead of the expected home driver Angiolino Baiguera, more and more confident after the race in Imola in his Stanguellini. Lots of unexpected and sensational events characterized the two days of Brescia, starting from the end of the tests on Saturday, when Marzatico, driven by the tow truck arrived at the parc fermé. The breaking of the gear-box not easily and quickly reparable, forced him to miss race one in the afternoon. Always in race one, Taraschi could not start because of the broken axle, while Baiguera was forced to retire due to the broken wire of the accelerator. In race two, apart from the duel of the final round, we have to remark the entry on the track of the safety car, needed to allow the removal of Simone Tacconi’s car, after a spin on the sandy curve number 4. There were some beautiful races at the restart where some drivers, perhaps eager to improve their position, made a series of spins: the Swiss Angelo Delea, the Tuscan Lottini, and Sbardolini, were the protagonists of the spins. At the end of race we recorded two withdrawals, Zadotti first and then Gelmini, when both held the third position. The next meeting is scheduled for 17-18 July in Misano Adriatico.
