1962 Elfin Catalina

1962 Elfin Catalina Chassis # 624

Built by Elfin Sports cars ( Melbourne Australia) originally to compete as Formula Junior powered by a 1100cc Ford .

Formula Junior was a flop in Australia, so Elfin fitted a larger engine to compete the 1.5 litre national Formula. Kevin Bartlett drove the car to victory first time out , at the Catalina Circuit, so these cars where given the ‘Catalina’ designation.

Elfin continued to produce Catalina’s, and most Elfin Juniors where converted to the Catalina specification. Elfin Catalinas proved successful and significant in 1960’s Australian circuit racing.

Although currently in Catalina spec, Chassis #624 left the Elfin works as a Formula Junior, so could be returned to FJ configuration.

A well presented car that is competitive and fun to drive.

Price: $75000.00 new zealand dollars. Packaging for shipping can be arranged.

Or car could be purchased and remain in New Zealand for New Zealand and Australian use if desired. Safe storage , preparation etc. can be arranged.

For more information on the specifications please contact Wayne;

email: wayneandastrid@slingshot.co.nz, Phone: ++64 7 823 8253 (New Zealand)

Lotus 20/22

Chassis no.919

Lotus 20/22, chassis no 919, a veteran of numerous Monterey Historics and earlier winner of the North American FJr championship.
We have done is a frame up restoration, including straigntening the frame, redoing all the cosmetic and structural parts of the frame and suspension, rebuilt the brakes and other hydraulics, rebuilt the steering, all new rod ends, new a-arms in front and new radius rods in the rear.

New Richardson engine overhauled by Steve Jennings, rebuilt air intake and cold air box that looks good and matches the one on the 22 in "The Lotus Book", new fuel cell in the original tank as a container, new Varley battery, new Koni steel shocks, new exhaust system and innumerable small but important restoration items. It has brand new Dunlop tires of the correct vintage
size. The car was properly converted in period to a 22, with layoverengine and all the appropriate bits, so it is completely of the 22 configuration. I am asking $85,000 and in my opinion it is well worth it as a "no excuses" race car.

Fairthorpe Electron/Climax

1959 Coventry Climax-engined Fairthorpe Electron for restoration. This is one of seven examples known to exist around the world and one of only two that still retains its original engine; a 1098cc Coventry Climax FWA. The big brother to the popular Electron Minor, the Electron was the choice of the more well-heeled Fairthorpe customer. Popular in club racing these cars appeared on entry lists for many UK and US venues including Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Goodwood and Virginia International Raceway. This example was stored outdoors for 20 years and  it needs full restoration , but is mostly complete and would make an attractive road car or widely accepted racer. Cooper Mk 5/55/50 T15

1950. JAP alloy barrel engine, Norton Upright Gearbox, many spares.  The first MK 5 built, pictured in factory ads.. All original in polished aluminum, original maroon leather.   Ex Ian Raby, Bob Woodward.  RACE READY.

  I also own Mk4/50/50, with the early boxed channel frame.    Racing records show Mk4/54/50 as having raced, so this is  the first Mk, built in 1950, hence the serial No.on this car.    The Mk 5’s were generally built in 1951.    Mk numbers started in 1947(1), 1948(2), 1949(3), 1950(4), 1951(5), etc., but his one  was 1950.    It was shown in a Cooper Ad, with louvers in the lower tail piece of the engine bonnet.   I still have that section, although it was shortened at some point and I have  welded in a with a new tail piece to restore it to the original configuration.  The gearbox shifts rather hard from 2nd to third; I suspect there is a gear from a later gearbox.   Spare sets of gears included, along with a  JAP barrel and other parts.  Bob Woodward (Dubuque, Iowa) restored it when he got it from Ian Raby and raced it in SCCA.   I acquired it in the late 70’s after Bob saw my Mk4 in a shop, and remarked to my future son-in-law that he also had a similar Cooper.I have raced it in numerous events in USA and Canada.    The car was originally silver and magenta;   I have stripped it to bare aluminum.    It is a very authentic Cooper, with no alterations from original design.
