Alain Gawski

We have just heard the very very sad news that Alain died yesterday morning from a cancerous brain tumour.

Alain was a core part of the revival of the Monomil class in the 70s through to 2003, he himself driving one of these DB Panhard cars with great verve and enthusiasm in both FISA Trophy races , and the Monomil series in France, as the attached Record shows.

Alain and Gilbert on winning the Clock Trophy

Alain was instrumental in the restoration and the return of Gilbert Lenoir’s Monopole-Oliveira FormulaJunior to the track in time for the Brands Hatch Golden Jubilee celebrations in 2008, and we were shocked to see Gilbert and David Coursier arrive at Goodwood on Thursday last without Alain, and to learn that he had first felt unwell at Monza, and although he attended the 500 race at Le Mans in July, he was already seriously ill.

We shall long remember the cheery smile of this tall Frenchman, his superb technical ability, and I personally, the races I had against his DB Monomil, in the early days at Paul Ricard, and the last being a great battle at the Eifelrennen in 2008, just one year ago.

We send our sad thoughts, but happy memories, to Alain's family and to Gilbert and his Team from all in Formula Junior and "Racer 500".
