Peter Jopp

It is with sadness that we have to report the loss of Peter Jopp.

Peter began racing 500s with a Cooper in 1952 before moving to an Emeryson in '53 winning the consolation final at Brands Hatch in June and finishing second to the sister Emeryson of Harold Daniell in July. In 1954 he finished a creditable fifth in the Whitsun meeting at Goodwood.

In 1956, Peter partnered with Reg Bicknell (of the Revis) in a Lotus XI for the Le Mans 24 hour race. They finished seventh overall and won the 1,100 cc class. He competed several more times at Le Mans in an Triumph TR3, Sunbeam Alpine and AC Cobra before turning his attentions to rallying for Rootes, Ford, Lancia and BMC. Peter also raced Formula Juniors, and actually competed in the 1960 Lewis Evans Trophy Formula 1 race at Brands Hatch in a Formula Junior Tomahawk (the predecessor of the FJ Ausper T3)

Peter also became a Director of the BRDC.
