Very sadly Reg had a stroke a week ago, leaving him partly paralysed, and a week later, on 15th April, he passed away.
Reg lived in Crick, Northants – and was a highly skilled engineer – his racing career went back a very long way, to the mid fifties, when he was driving one of the central seat Sports Racing Cars built by Cyril Kieft – and he is best known for his many years in the nineties and ‘naughties’ racing his ex Don Parker Kieft to numerous victories, both at Goodwood, and innumerable FJHRA and 500 OA races. This Kieft followed on successes with a Martin.
Whilst much respected as an able racer, he did not always see eye to eye with his fellow club members over all matters of eligibility, and a few years ago planned a transition into Formula Junior buying a Brabham BT6 and a Cooper T59 – however an earlier illness intervened, and the Brabham went to John Truslove, whilst the Cooper made its way to the Antipodes. The faithful Kieft was also sold, to Richard Ellingworth, and Reg kept his racing involvement – helping Richard in maintaining and preparing the car.
We shall miss Reg – he certainly livened up out lives and i was fortunate to enjoy many long chats and the occasional visit to his home and workshops, and much camaraderie with him, Keith Rushall, and the rest of his team at the circuits,
